National Ding-a-Ling Day

What is a “Ding-a-Ling” exactly? A “Ding-a-Ling” is a person who truly lets loose. On this holiday, I celebrate going positively crazy and letting that quirky, bizarre side of myself see the light of day. I’m not talking about full-blown chaos here, I’m talking about relaxing and letting that rational, pencil-pushing part of our personalities take a queue from that inner creativity and foolishness that we constantly try to sequester during the other 364 days of the year.

Ding-a-Ling’s are all around us. At the grocery store, the library, hey, maybe you even have a couple in your family. Today is about appreciating the Ding-a-Ling’s in our lives and making an effort to become a Ding-a-Ling as well.

Despite my best efforts, there isn’t much to go off in terms of background. No one has “officially” recognized Ding-a-Ling Day as a National Holiday, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t real. People all over the world celebrate this holiday and there is photographic evidence of this. When did this holiday start? I can only guess. I’m casting my vote for the “Roaring 20’s” – they were all crazy back then.

-(Optional) A few other Ding-a-Ling’s
-The willingness to go crazy in a happy sort of way

1) Put away you’re preconceived prejudices and pessimisms.
2) Enjoy living and do something new, exciting, and crazy.
3) Have fun.
